Is Loveland, Colorado Romantic?
Is Loveland, Colorado really romantic? It’s a very good question. After all, a town that touts itself as the Sweetheart City better be able to provide some romance, right?
Once covered in cherry trees and then sugar crops, today, Loveland is known for a variety of economic activities from technology to retail to oil exploration. None of these things sound very romantic, but let me tell you a personal story.
I married my husband, Ryan, in 2003, in Golden, Colorado. Five months later we bought a home in Loveland. I love telling folks that, “I got married and moved to LOVEland.” It’s always good for a chuckle.
It’s true that Loveland is a work-a-day community, but that doesn’t mean there aren’t romantic escapes around town. Here are some romantic dates we’ve had in Loveland, Colorado.
Bowling at Sweetheart Lanes
When you think of bowling, romance might not be the first thing that comes to mind, but Ryan and I have had some of our most memorable date nights at Sweetheart Lanes, Loveland’s retro bowling alley.
Visiting Sweetheart Lanes is like stepping back in time and this place has all the ingredients for a great date night; low lighting, a jukebox and cheap drinks.
A Stroll at a Sculpture Park
I have a lovely memory of my first stroll at Chapungu Sculpture Park at Centerra. Located at the Promenade Shops at Centerra, I first visited during a “Sounds of Centerra,” a reoccurring summertime concert that happens at Chapungu.
The 26-acre park features 82 African stone sculptures from Zimbabwean artists. While Loveland is well known for traditional bronze sculpture, this park is something entirely different and at twilight it’s the perfect place to take a walk with your sweetheart.
For a look at some of the sculptures that put Loveland on the map as an artist community, wander through Benson Sculpture Garden. Whether the sculptures are covered in snow or the park’s many trees are in the full bloom of spring, it’s a charming place to visit with your special someone.
A Downtown Loveland Outing
Downtown Loveland is what ultimately sold me on moving to the town, and it’s gotten even better over the 12 years that Ryan and I have called Loveland home.
With delicious restaurants, a historic and beautiful theater, art galleries and a bit of shopping, an afternoon or evening spent strolling in downtown Loveland is time well spent.
Whether you come to bowl or just to stroll, Loveland really can be a romantic destination if you know where to look.
