Late Summer Festivals You Can’t Miss – Loveland, Colorado

How is it August already? If you are like us, you’ve been enjoying a beautiful summer and might want to add in a little more fun before you start thinking about back-to-school and cooler weather. 

Luckily, Loveland is buzzing with awesome August and September festivals.  From music and chalk art festivals to rodeo and the largest outdoor juried sculpture show in the nation, in Loveland, there is no shortage of fun – just 45 minutes north of Denver. Here are some top festivals not to miss. 


Aug. 2-4: ARISE Festival

ARISE is an independent, family-run festival at Sunrise Ranch. ARISE offers a range of activities and concerts such as workshops, enriching yoga classes, provocative documentary films and panel discussions, art installations, live painters and art gallery, performance artists and theme camps.  Top music acts include Beats Antique, Railroad Earth, Leftover Salmon, SunSquabi, Clozze, and Rising Appalachia and headliner Tipper. Widely regarded as “Colorado’s Best Festival,” ARISE has received accolades from national media outlets such as Rolling Stone Magazine.


Aug. 2-6: Larimer County Fair and PRCA Rodeo

Don’t miss northern Colorado’s largest county fair and rodeo with fun for the entire family. Join more than 100,000 attendees at the Ranch for the annual Larimer County Fair and PRCA Rodeo, parade, tons of shows, the huge Carnival Americana, Colorado Craft Cave, pancake breakfast, draft horse show, fireworks each night at 9:30 p.m., tons of entertainment and so much more. Join them Friday night for a free concert featuring Jerrod Niemann and special guest CJ Solar. 


Aug. 9-11: Art and Sculpture Show Weekend Featuring Three Large Events

  • Aug. 10-11: Sculpture in the Park: The 36th annual Sculpture in the Park show and sale will feature more than 2,000 pieces of sculptures by 160 artists. Included in the show is a “Take Home a Piece of the Park” tent which features maquette-sized editions of some of the sculpture pieces that are on permanent display in Benson Sculpture Garden. Sculpture in the Park is the largest outdoor juried sculpture show and sale in the US.
  • Aug. 10-11: Art in the Park: Art in the Park is Colorado’s longest-running artisan festival. Art in the Park takes place the same weekend as the internationally renowned Sculpture in the Park. These events, combined, draw over 30,000 people to Loveland. Explore and purchase artwork and artisan goods from more than 200 juried artisans. 
  • Aug. 9-11: Loveland Fine Art & Sculpture Festival: The Annual Loveland Fine Art & Sculpture Invitational brings three days of world-class art, wine and entertainment to the city. Artists from around the country will be displaying original works in a wide variety of mediums and subject matter; Including sculptures in bronze, stone, metal, wood, glass and mixed media; spectacular paintings in acrylic, oil and watercolors, mixed media on canvas; etchings, blown glass, turned wood vessels, fine jewelry, and more.


Aug. 23-24: Old Fashioned Corn Roast Festival

The Old Fashioned Corn Roast Festival is Loveland’s oldest festival and will include a parade, corn shucking competition, annual cornhole tournament and all the roasted and boiled non-GMO corn anyone could eat! Also, people of all ages can enjoy a variety of entertainment, great vendors and more. General attendance and all concerts are always free and open to the public.


Aug. 31 – Sept. 2: Thunder in the Rockies

One of the largest motorcycle rallies in the U.S., Thunder in the Rockies features more than 100 biker-related vendors and entertainment including the Busted Knuckles Stunt Show, Flaunt Girls, concerts by Hairball, Queensryche and Dokken, Harley-Davidson’s demo fleet, contests and more. Don’t miss the Forever Families Ride on Sunday for a gorgeous ride with Rocky Mountain Views. 


Sept. 6-8: Goodguys 22nd Colorado Nationals

Kick-off the fall hot roddin’ season and head to the Rockies for some mile-high automotive entertainment. This high altitude weekend of fun features a giant show & shine with over 2,000 1972 & earlier rods, customs, muscle cars, trucks and classics on display, vendor exhibits and so much more.


Sept. 7: Horsetooth International Film Festival

The Horsetooth International Film Festival is a three day regional, multi-town, multi-venue event designed for creatives, artists, and film lovers alike. The event will feature several film categories, live musical performances, and art installations by local talent. There will also be a featured musical artist to close out the festival in addition to an awards ceremony for the filmmakers. The main event at the Rialto Theater Sept. 7 includes screenings of films in all festival categories. 


Sept. 12: Barbarian Feast

Barbarian Feast is a beer dinner like no other. The setting is 500 A.D. and the Germanic tribes have come back from battle to celebrate a great victory over their foes! Platters piled high with meats and root vegetables roasted over an open flame served with a bread plate and no utensils. This event has one requirement, and that is to bring your own knife (BYOK), no napkins or silverware will be provided and barbarian dress is highly recommended.


Sept. 13-14: Loveland Oktoberfest

Northern Colorado’s most authentic German-style Oktoberfest brings together all 10 Loveland breweries for delicious beer and entertainment featuring German Polak bands, Accordion players, German dance music, authentic German food vendors, Hammerschlagen (Stump) competition, Human Fooseball, a kid zone and so much more at Fairgrounds Park. The festival will be the launch of “Liebsland Helles”, the official beer of the Loveland Oktoberfest and brewed together by participating breweries to celebrate the season and community. The beer is a light German-style Helles lager – easy-drinking and 100% Loveland.


Sept. 14: Pastels on 5th

This free, family-friendly, community-wide sidewalk chalk art festival brings together artists and businesses, in downtown Loveland to transform 5th Street into a spectacular sidewalk gallery. The event includes live music, food, a Marketplace with food and artisan booths, and a children’s art area where kids can create their own sidewalk masterpieces.
