Join David Neils from Wild Nature Media (www.wildnaturemedia.com) and leverage a lifetime of backcountry experience, primarily navigating his way off-trail in all seasons and terrain. Learn how to transition from surviving to thriving in the outdoors with confidence. This orienteering class is a great place to start, knowing how to create a route and follow it with confidence, on and off trail. You’ll also learn how to avoid losing your route and what to do when you feel lost.
November 2: Friday evening presentation on using a map, compass, and GPS app successfully, route planning, on trail, off trail from 7:00 p.m. – 8:30 p.m at the High Plains Environmental Center (2698 Bluestem Willow Dr., Loveland, CO 80538)
November 3: Saturday hike at Sylvan Dale Guest Ranch (2939 N Co Rd 31D, Loveland, CO 80538), 8:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m., practicing in the field in marked and unmarked terrain.
Number of Participants: 10 minimum, 15 maximum
Cost: $110 per person, $10 goes to support Nonprofit Environmental Education programs at the High Plains Environmental Center.

Become skilled in topographic map reading, including paper and electronic maps.
Gain compass, altimeter, and basic GPS skills
Learn to plan your intended routes before you go
Learn to travel in unmarked terrain
Learn what to do when you “feel” lost
