Line Casting: Visual Art & Poetry pairs 25 poets with 25 visual artists in an exhibit that makes a connection from one art to another through a single line. Each artist received two poems from a poet (whose name was not revealed). The artist chose a line that he or she could bring into a new piece of visual art. The line will appear on the artwork as text, and the poem will be hung as a poster next to the artwork.
The exhibit’s 25 participating visual artists come largely from ArtWorks Loveland studios, but additional artists have been included by invitation. The 25 poets come from Loveland and the surrounding northern Colorado poetry community.
The impetus for this exhibit was to connect a poet and a visual artist through the artist’s selection of a single line to launch a new work on which that line appears. The exhibit’s energy comes from seeing how the two works, hanging side by side, add insight and resonance to each other.
