The 7th Annual Running of the Wieners Dachshund Race takes place on May 19th, 2018. Doors open at 11 am, and races are from 1-5 pm. Last year, over 150 dogs ran in support of the Fort Collins Cat Rescue and Spay/Neuter Clinic (https://www.fccrsnc.org/). A percentage of beer and cider sales that day will be donated to help this non-profit organization’s efforts to reduce pet overpopulation. The clinic has performed over 43,000 surgeries on dogs and cats since opened in 2007. There will also be on-site food trucks offering a variety of locally-made fare and pet-related businesses handing out samples, showcasing services, and selling goods.
The races will be held at Climb Hard Cider’s production facility: 245 S. Madison Ave. Pre-registration is required. There is a small race registration fee of $5 per dog for up to three dogs, and $2 beyond that. The fee is waved for rescue groups who enter Dachshunds that are up for adoption. Entry is free for spectators.
Every wiener is a winner! Each participant will receive a 2018 Running of the Wieners ribbon. Medals will be awarded to 1st, 2nd, 3rd place winners at the end of each division’s final heat, and trophies to 1st, 2nd, 3rd prizes to the winners of the final race. There will be a costume contest and a prize basket will be given to 1 winner in each of these categories: most original, cutest, funniest, best overall.
